What is Collaborative Law?Collaborative Law is a relatively new and rapidly expanding method of going through the divorce process, without having to go to court. It is similar to mediation in that the parties aim to reach an agreement on their own, and actually commit to doing so without the intervention of the court. However, unlike mediation, parties choosing Collaborative Law will each have attorneys advocating for them throughout the negotiation process. If appropriate or necessary, parties may chose to include other professionals throughout the negotiation process, such as mental health professionals, child specialists or financial professionals. The involvement of other specialists can help make the process go more smoothly and more efficiently. Overall, the cost of Collaborative Law is often much lower than using traditional litigation and can help parties create a tailored settlement agreement to meet each of their needs. For more information and a local list professionals in the Collaborative Practice of Santa Cruz: www.collaborativepracticesantacruz.com.
